“UNA DELLE PRINCIPALI CAPPELLE MUSICALI ITALIANE” — BALDI

MAGISTERIAL. THE COMPLETE LITURGY OF THE HOURS — COMMISSIONED BY AND PRINTED ON THICK VELLUM FOR THE CHAPEL CANONS AT THE TURIN CATHEDRAL.
It includes a THEORETICAL TREATISE ON POLYPHONIC COMPOSITION by the editor, music professor and Turin canon, Giovanni Antonio de Levioni (fl. 1524-1527), who supplied musical examples and, at the end, inserted the four-voice hymn to Mary (Inviolata, integra et casta) by the Turinese cantor Antonio Martini (fl. 1500-1520).
Porro introduced music printing to Turin. His liturgical folios for its Cathedral comprise nearly half his output. In excellent condition (three margins with natural vellum flaws, one neatly sewn closed). I have located five complete copies (Cremona, Ferrara, Rome, Seville, Turin).
