Contemporary gilt-ruled red morocco (corners worn), gilt arms of L.-C. de Choiseul-Stainville in the corners, spine gilt with an anchored cross in five compartments and the title in the sixth, all edges gilt.
In 1736, the newly confirmed Bishop of Châlons Claude-Antoine de Choiseul-Beaupré (1697-1763) began a revision of the diocese’s liturgy followed by a printing program to distribute it. This processional — containing the antiphons, responsories, hymns, sequences, prayers and rubrics for the liturgical year — belonged to the bishop’s cousin and vicar general, Léopold-Charles de Choiseul-Stainville (1724-74), who eventually became a bishop then archbishop of Albi and, later, of Cambrai. No copy outside of France. In nice condition (one quire browned); from the collection of Parisian bookseller Lucien Gougy (1863-1931; Bibliothèque…4e partie (1935) 1377).
