Rounded Gothic type, initial spaces (some printed guide letters), rubricated, majuscules stroked in red on the first eight leaves, TWO FULL-PAGE CRUCIFIXION WOODCUTS — one in the text (139 x 83 mm.), the other on the title with the Virgin, St. John and two Roman soldiers (129 x 75 mm.).

Blind-tooled tan sheep (rubbed), outer and inner rule frames around a diapered central rectangle with four repetitions of an eagle stamp, small central crowned armorial charge with a rosette, blind-lettered spine title and date, blue edges.

         THE FIRST APPEARANCE OF THESE FINE WOODCUTS. In his Gospel harmony, the Dominican ascetic (d. 1483) also draws on classical sources and history, Church Fathers, medieval and Talmudic scholars, and the writings of contemporary mystics. This is his only published work. The concluding short, influential tract on the sorrows of the Virgin is the work of Cistercian abbot Oglerius of Locedius (d. 1214). Two copies in U.S. libraries. In nice condition (several small wormholes not affecting legibility, first two leaves lightly stained); contemporary inscription in the gutter of one leaf, two 17th-century title inscriptions.
