Wagner), ornamental woodcut verse headings, a woodcut Storti title device, title printed in red and black.

CONTEMPORARY GILT-DECORATED AND GOLD-STAMPED GREEN PAPER BOARDS (small light stain to rear panel), rococo frame of lattice work and foliage around a field of stars surrounding the arms of F.M. Giovanelli, flat spine with stars (faded), 19th-century paper label, red edges.

            Only Edition of this finely printed festival book celebrating Giovanelli’s installation as Patriarch of Venice. In Italian and Latin, the verse tributes are personal, literary, historical, genealogical, artistic and spiritual. The fifty-eight contributors include librettists, courtiers, politicians, prelates, financiers, parishioners, historians, friends, academics, diplomats and foreign nobles. The painter and etcher Jos. Wagner (1706-80) established a Venetian school for engravers, and his style was a hallmark of 18th-century Venetian book illustration. A large, fresh copy (two fore-edges still conjugate).
