Contemporary gilt red morocco (minor repairs) with flowers, arabesques and THE ARMS OF CARLO EMANUELE I, DUKE OF SAVOY, spine gilt (base restored), edges gilt and gauffered, evidence of four ties.
Only Edition, earliest issue. Savoy Court preacher Mareotti dedicated his fifty spiritual lessons to Sancha de Guzmán y Toledo, a longtime intimate of Catalina Micaela de Austria (1567-97), Duchess of Savoy.
For Mareotti, the Lord’s Prayer is the model of devotion: brief and efficacious. He weighs its words and phrases, draws on the Old Testament and provides a subject index. In good condition (some foxing, occasional pale blank marginal stains), early intaglio bookplate with the cross of Savoy, old manuscript shelf marks.
