Analyse Des Différens Ouvrages De Peinture, Sculpture Et Architecture, Qui sont dans l’hôtel de Ville de Toulouse.
Toulouse, J. Dalles 1770.
8vo (193 x 118 mm.). Woodcut headpiece with the arms of the dedicatee, Mlle. de Vaudeuil.
Contemporary mottled calf (joints repaired, boards slightly splayed, spine chipped), gilt spine and title, red edges, red silk marker.
First Edition. This art tour starts with the newly completed Toulouse town hall’s façade, design, dimensions, materials and three inner courtyards. Once inside, Rivalz describes some fifty paintings and three dozen sculptures — their subjects, some context and, for the important pieces, the canvas size. He also remarks on the archive’s treasures. The Analysis is missing from all the standard art bibliographies. In good condition; the two paste-over text corrections (one replacing twenty-three words) are not present in the Getty copy.
