Catalogus dererjenigen Jurid. Medic. Philos. Mathem. Histor. Philolog. und anderer alten und neuen Bücher…Catalogue Des Livres, François, Italiens, Anglois & Espagnols.

Zürich, for Heidegger & Co. 1759.

Two parts in one volume. 8vo (191 x 118 mm.). [iv], 440p. and 99p. Gothic, roman, italic, Hebrew and Greek types, woodcut title ornament on the divisional title.

Early 19th-century half brown sheep and marbled boards (rubbed), marbled edges.

With this catalog, readers could browse nearly 14,000 priced new and used books stocked by Heidegger & Co. Arranged in a single alphabet by author, or by title if anonymous, the first part (440p.) lists works in German, in Latin, in Greek and in Hebrew. Arranged by language, the second section contains books in French, Italian and English (none in Spanish despite the title-page promise). The supplement seems to be “Recent Arrivals”, including some books by Kircher.
One or possibly two contemporary buyers systematically annotated this copy, indicating books of interest — or perhaps books in their library. In reddish pencil, a reader put a V at the bottom of each page he read, marked titles with a series of dots and dashes in the blank margins and underlined authors, titles and dates. On at least a dozen pages in ink, a reader has also supplemented details to printed entries and in one case added the 1695 Ptolemy.
I have not located any Heidegger catalog in North American collections. In good condition (scattered spots), 19th-century ownership and withdrawal stamps of Freiburg University.
