FOR THE SIGHTSEER, ART LOVER & OUTDOORSMAN

Beschreibung des Wurm- oder Starenbergersees.

Munich, J.B. Strobel 1784.

8vo (168 x 100 mm.). Frontis., [ii], vi, [ii], 163, [1]p. and an ENGRAVED FOLDING MAP and a folding etched plate (309 x 166 mm.) of the Starnberg whitefish or Bodenrenke (reproduced actual size). Etched title vignette of boys fishing.

Contemporary autumn-leaf calf (worn), spine and yellow leather label, red edges.

First Edition. This tourist guide to the scenic Lake Starnberg shepherds the visitor around the lake, remarking on the castles’ art and architecture, the guest house (and library) run by Henrietta Trevor (English but fluent in German), historical anecdotes, etc. Native fish, birds and game, hunter’s tricks, water craft, and recipes also figure prominently. The Starnberg whitefish is here described for the first time. I have not found an example of this or the later printing in a U.S. library. In good condition.
