Late 18th-century sheep backed pastepaper boards (worn, defective joints cracked), flat spine and label gilt, red edges.
With: Estienne, Charles. 1504-1564. Ad I-II: “Two of the most important agricultural treatises by Charles Estienne” (Oberlé, tr.). First Edition, on fruit trees and their cultivation. The second work is a guide to plants and trees with a new preface addressed to his eight-year-old nephew, the future printer Henri II Estienne.

Ad III-IV: Adapted from scholarly texts by Lazare de Baïf (1496-1547), these works treat ancient Roman domestic and ceremonial containers and clothing, respectively. Both have a French glossary of terminology. Charles originally prepared them to tutor Baïf’s son, Charles.
In good condition (minor pale stains in I and IV), library stamp of the Seminaire du Troyes, early partly effaced ownership inscription reading ?”Fr. Stephanus” and three other inscriptions in different hands on the title, Greek and Latin marginal note on one page.
