Ad I: ONLY EDITION, THE FIRST BIBLIOGRAPHY OF  THE FATHER OF PIETISM. Spener initiated and lead the German reform movement grounded in the pious involvement of individual believers in lieu of structured Lutheran orthodoxy. He wrote exegetical, devotional, polemical, educational and heraldic works.
Organized by format, the Complete Catalog lists one hundred seventy-six first editions — seven folios, sixty-five quartos, seven octavos, forty-six duodecimos and eight vicesimo-quartos (24mos), along with six printings of Spener’s selected works and thirty-seven forewords and prefaces in the publications of others.
I have not located a copy in North America. Some shoulder notes, signatures and catchwords shaved by the binder; one leaf carefully folded to preserve text.

Ad II: Spener’s fundamental work, the Pious Desires “placed religious experience upon an entirely new foundation” and set forth his “proposals for the reform and improvement of the Evangelical church” (Faber du Faur).
¶Grünberg III: 253-4,276; VD18 10154698; see Faber du Faur’s German Baroque Literature 1409.

Ad III: “Spener here expresses his opposition to separatism” (Faber du Faur).

Ad IV: Spener’s “supplement” to Dutch theologian Gerard Croese’s’ Quaker History. Not in VD18.
¶Grünberg III: 255,299.

Ad V: First Edition. In his principle work of theological pedagogy, Francke drafts a course of study for aspiring preachers. FRANCKE’S METHODS SERVED AS THE BASIS FOR EDUCATION IN COLONIAL AMERICA. It remained in print through the end of the century.

Ad VI: Alarm to Teachers was written by Scottish Covenanter Robert MacWard, who was banished from Glasgow in 1661 for seditious preaching. He emigrated to Holland, where it was published in Dutch. Translated by G.M. Laurentii (1670-1724), the first edition in German appeared in 1703. Apparently the original English version has never been printed.

The compiler of this fine Sammelband recorded the volume’s contents on the front flyleaf in a neat cursive hand, along with the cost of binding and the price of each book. He also extensively annotated some of Francke’s Idea (V). In nice condition.
