Contemporary glazed pink paper boards with gilt-ruled and lettered spine (worn, pink paper chipped at edges and on the spine).

Only Edition, popular science for women mixed with anecdotes of jewelers’ practical experiences. Addressed to two German princesses, these twelve discursive letters present “the essential facts about gemstones…identification methods, the diamond and other gemstones, birthstones, curious lore, gem cutting styles, qualities of cut gems, etc.” (Sinkankas). The folding table lists properties of gemstones from diamond to peridot. In 1830 C.H. Sommer issued a reworked version in Danish. Two copies in the U.S. In good condition, from the library of connoisseur, archaeologist and author Karl August Böttiger (1760-1835), stamp of the Plauen town library.
