[France], s.n. c. 1800.

Single engraved sheet of wove paper (185/90 x 119/126 mm.) with two perfume bottle labels — the larger measures 67 x 117 mm. and the smaller 45 x 74 mm. Each label has an alembic in the lower left and lower right corners showing distillation. Foliage and festoons make up the decorative borders.

Apothecary labels for bottles of eau de cologne — distilled alcohol and the scent, in this case, derived from orange flower. The appearance of double in the product’s name suggests that both a less powerful eau de toilette and a more powerful perfume of the same fragrance were available. Cut on a single plate, the labels were intended to be divided after printing, the larger fixed to a larger bottle for a more well-heeled customer, and the smaller a real treat for the impecunious. In original condition.
