19th-century vellum-backed marbled boards, gilt-lettered spine title.

First Edition of this 15th-century travel account by the humanist, theologian, friend of the “book hunters” Niccolò Niccoli and Poggio Bracciolini and head of the Camaldolese Order. In 1431, he visited the Order’s Italian monasteries, and this is his report to Pope Eugene IV. About half the recorded copies have a frontispiece (added later?). In good condition, signature of the 19th-century philologist A. Wilmann on the front flyleaf.
